Class of 1965 Blog

Bob:

Thank you again for keeping our class informed; I know it's a lot of work but it is so appreciated.  Bill and I are now back at home after living in Atlanta for two months while he finished out the final two months of his six-month infused chemo/oral chemo + radiation.  He managed the therapy well but is very weak from it all.  His doctor was very encouraging; the next step is the CT scan in March.  Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers; it really helps!

Today I am going to lunch with Donna Tucker Longshore, Alva Jo Gass LaMontangue, Sherry O'Dell Price, and Patty Adams Thompson to celebrate Sherry's birthday!  We have received great support from them and many, many other classmates throughout this ordeal.

Thanks again for your good work for the class and I pray you will be able to continue.

Warm regards,

Lindia Caldwell Harless

Hello, My friends and family; I had my fourth chemo yesterday. I had a good report from the Doctor. My blood work was the best since October! I have had less pain, nausea and have been able to eat more since I had the blood transfusion on January 13th. Please pray that I will tolerate this chemo better this time than the others. I have been getting deathly sick on the second day after chemo and it last for almost three weeks! I thank each of you for yours cards, phone calls, emails and mostly for your prayers!!! It seems on days that I am the sickest and emotional lowest, one of you reaches out to me and it helps so much to boast my courage and strenght!!! God bless each of you for you friendship and kindness to me!!! I am so blessed for knowing you and having you all in my life!!! Your loving friend, Tonia

Jim had an appointment with his orthopedic doctor December 15th, and he has agreed to give Jim’s right foot more time to heal. Jim broke his ankle last spring, and since that time it has never completely healed in part due to his weight, and also because of his diabetes. As a result, Jim has been confronted with the possibility that he may eventually lose the foot.  For the time being though, Jim has to use either a walker or wheelchair to get around.  I’m sure that he would appreciate your prayers or phone calls at 423-314-1798 or 423-894-5221.

Bob, Hal and I are great grandparents.  Yesterday our grandson’s wife had an 8# 6oz, 22? long baby girl.  They named her Mary Jane.  She is beautiful and when I get some pictures of her I’ll send them to our group.  Linda Lewis Crossley

PS – you talk about making you feel old…that really makes me feel old.

Dear Friends,
My last email told you about my first chemo and how I did well.  On Saturday, after that e-mail I became VERY ill and could not keep anything on my stomach.  I was admitted to the hospital for two and a half days.  I now have a blood clot in the lung with CA and must be on O2.  Please pray for me!!  I am very sick, but I know prayers changes things!!!
Love to you all, Tonia

Dear Friends,

My brother, Eddie, left us peacefully today and is now with his Lord.  After a year long battle with Cancer and Kidney failure, his body just shut down.  Funeral arrangements have not been finalized.  He leaves in our care his wife Marineal (Coach Farmer's niece), three children, their spouses, and 8 grandchildren.  Eddie was 71 years old.

Thank you for your continuing prayers for his family,

Gratefully,
Ron

Hi Bob, Thanks for keeping us in the loop on classmates and what's happening in their lives. As for me, I continue to be very busy with my music, playing and singing as usual. It keeps me active and in the mainstream. I'm not a happy camper this morning, due to the defeat of my beloved Crimson Tide last night, but.....so it goes. I also have a heavy heart due to the impending move of my daughter to Denver; a wonderful opportunity for her, big career move, but sad for Mamaw, to see her little Grands leave. For the time being, I'll remain here in Cincinnati...we'll see how everything unfolds. I'm so grateful for good friends to lean on. Best wishes to everyone, and again, Bob, thanks for your service. Looking forward to my trip back to Chattanooga next week. Will see family, high school classmates, and friends. Will lunch at Bea's where I served tables in the early and mid-60s. Mike and Doug Bradshaw (Bea's grandsons) with whom I served tables are still there after all these years, and the food is the same--great! Thanks to WL and Lynne Goodman for their hospitality. Also want to thank Bobby Byrd for being so willing to provide transportation. Thanks to Lori Harless Grauso for spreading the word on lunch at Bea's on the 9th. Finally, thanks to those who responded to my request for feedback on the Class of '65 Blogs and blast e-mails and to those who have indicated they will be at Bea's on the 9th and/or The Central Connection luncheon on the 10th.

Hello Bob,

Well, I am finally going to make time to thank you, again, for all the work you do to keep all of us informed.

Since I am not a fan of Facebook or do not blog or "tweet", I feel a little like a dinosaur, but it works for me!

I appreciate and enjoy all the comments and information you post on emails, and keep all in my prayers. You asked me to send you a little update, so here goes:

It has been a really busy spring and summer, not with real estate, I am sorry to say, but with the duties of being the VP of my choir, and being a Grandmother to 2 active Granddaughters. Our choir has had several special performances this year, as our trip to London and Manila were canceled due to security reasons. As of 2 weeks ago, it was announced that we have learned 75 songs this year. We must memorize our music, as no songbooks or music sheets are allowed during services. It sure has kept this ole brain a little sharper. My Granddaughters, Finley, 7, and Harper, 3, are very social and involved in many things. They are such a blessing!

I had surgery on my knee in June. There was a bad tear in the meniscus resulting from a fall in a restaurant. Someone had dropped a piece of chalk on a concrete floor, and I found it! Rehab was okay, but am having a little arthritis.

I am enjoying the BAMA season again this year. Plan on being at the BAMA/LSU game on Saturday.

I just returned from a trip up the New England coast, and Cape Cod. It was amazing and the weather was spectacular- in the 70's.

Just yesterday there was a massive snow storm in the same areas I had been 2 weeks ago.

My Mom is doing great and will be 87 in December. She got some damage from the tornado that hit the valley but all was safe.

Please keep me on the email list, and I will try to make it to the lunch on the 9th.

God continues to provide and bless our family, and I hope all is well with you and your family--my best to all!

Peggy Cosper Gilley

Glad you are coming to Chattanooga next week. Wish I could have lunch with you at Bea's. It's one of my favorites. I'm having double by-pass 11-07-11 at Memorial. This is my second time. The first one was 19 years ago and it lasted twice as long as normal so its time for another one. Talked tp Byrd yesterday about the time in service and I will write something for our blog while I'm recouping. Thanks for all you do for our class. Gene

Apparently some classmates have not seen my October 29th post--here it is again:

I'll be in the Chattanooga area 9 - 13 November and hope to see as many classmates as possible. Lunch at Bea's Retaurant on the 9th is on my agenda--you're invited. Also plan on attending The Central Connection Luncheon at Ryan's in East Ridge on the 10th. Perhaps it's time for the Class of '65 to show up at the Central Connection Luncheon to show "We're the Best There Is Still Alive."

Time for both informal gatherings is 12:00 p.m. Eastern.

I wanted to let everyone know that Theo is doing really well. I saw him after church last Sunday & he wanted all of our classmates to know he is okay & that he appreciated the cards & phone calls he received after his accident. I had the chance to talk to him over lunch & he is the same Theo we all know & love. He doesn't have a computer so he can't keep in touch as much as he would like but sends his best to everyone. It was a real blessing to see him being able to drive & get around after what he has been through! I will let him know about the lunch dates coming up; maybe he can attend.

Dear Bob,

Wish I was going to be in the area for the two dates you posted.  I am very thankful for all the entries you post and keeping the communication open.  Appreciate all your time and work put into this for us.

Not sure if you ever got my e-mail this summer about the wreck I was in.  It really was the hand of the Lord that kept me from being killed. Still having nerve damage but I can deal with that.  Thanks again.
Sincerely, Pat Mayfield

Thanks John and Wanda. Goal is to keep communications open. Well aware that many are not bloggers and facebookers. Just needed to get your feedback. We will keep the systems going for one-third or less of our classmates who still want to be "The Best There is Alive."

For more than two years we’ve been trying hard to enhance communications among our classmates with blogs and blast e-mails. Satistical feedback indicates only about one-third of those with e-mail addresses open what is sent out via our blast e-mail system, and very few comment on blog entries.

Statistics can be incomplete and misleading.

So, please make a comment on this post if you value the blogs and blast e-mail system.

Well the first surgery has gone well so far, the next surgery is set for Oct 17th. If it helps as much as the other I may be able to return to work and be almost normal once again. Or not!!!

I should know something after the next procedure is completed. The reason it has taken so long is because of getting the Insurance company to approve the operations. I have been going to six different doctors for the last two years to find the reasons for the headaches and symtoms of losing part of my vision at times. Now that we know the medical problem is Cervical and Spinal Stenosis. The only medical procedure of benefit was to kill the nerves between the vertibrates. They completed the first procedure last Friday and will perform the other one Oct. 17th. It only last about 12 to 16 months but that is better than the medications I have been taking. Thanks Bobby

I have a prayer request for my husand Hal who is in the Philippines with a few other guys to visit all our planted churches and Bible College.  Anyway, he is very sick.  He was able to "pick up" some antibiotics to loosen what sounds like pneumonia.  He sounds horrible on the phone.  He will be leaving Friday night (back to the states) (Friday AM here).  He really needs a lot of prayer so would appeciate your advising our classmates to pray.  Thanks, Linda Lewis Crossley
