Class of 1965 Blog

Hi Bob,

Hope this finds you and your family well.

You may remember from our phone conversation in July, there was a high probability that I would be having another back operation in the September/October time frame. Well, that has become a fact; I will have what is known as a 360° fusion of L4 and L5.  This requires two surgical procedures which are separated by about two weeks.

The first procedure is a surgical entry from the front (through the belly), insertion of a “cage” around the front side of L4, L5…then the fusion of the front half of L4 with L5.

The second procedure follows in two weeks and consists of entry from the back for the completion of the L4, L5 fusion.

Pre-admission, lab work, and whatever else the surgeon and neurosurgeon do before the actual drama, will begin Sept. 23rd.  I am hopeful this will eliminate or significantly reduce the painful and unpredictable nerve spasms I currently experience in my legs, feet, and toes.

You may also remember we talked a bit about my father and his fall resulting in a dislocated hip, requiring physical therapy and a nursing home stay.  We did have to make the decision to remand him to the ongoing care of a nursing home here in Lewisburg.  It will be for the best as he knows that he can no longer manage on his own.  A Happy note; we just celebrated his 92nd birthday with him yesterday (Labor Day).

Even with these events, we believe life is good and God is the Ultimate Healer.  I am blessed each morning as the sun rises and Pamela and I still smile when random thoughts of the fabulous cruise of February cross our minds. I do hope the Alaska cruise becomes a reality….We are both ready to come to Seattle, check out some of the local fare, then hit the big boat.

We regret missing the 45th Class Reunion on the 25th but look forward to future gathering of the “Best There is Alive” the Class of ’65."

Requesting you Prayers for success and healing…..Larry and Pamela
