Bill Byrd, 94, of Chattanooga, died on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, after a short illness.

A native of Bruceton, Tn., he moved to Chattanooga at an early age and was retired from the Krystal Corporation as the Chattanooga City Manager.

He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army and was a member of Red Bank Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Half Century Club and had been a resident of the Hickory Valley Retirement Community for the past five years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, LaVada.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Elizabeth Berry, Maryville, Tn.; two sons, William Edward Byrd and Robert Reed Byrd, both of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Marie Howard and Beverly Walden, of Chattanooga, Bryan Byrd, Dalton, Ga., Mike Berry and Tony Berry, both of Maryville, Tn.; and special friends, Brenda Russell, Columbia, S.C. and Sandy Guffey, Chattanooga, as well as all the staff and residents of Hickory Valley Retirement Community.

Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, in Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Dean officiating.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
