Virginia McDaris

Virginia Miller “Gin” McDaris, 86, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009, in the Hospice Wing of Memorial Hospital.

She was currently a resident of the Terrace at Mountain Creek in Chattanooga. She had been battling Alzheimer’s for about three years. She was a native of Cleveland, born on April 24, 1923, to the late Fred and Gertrude Miller. She lived in Cleveland until 2007 and was a longtime member of Broad Street United Methodist Church. She worked for Bradley Cleveland Developmental Services for 30 years where she was affectionately known as “Sarge.” She was blessed with many wonderful friends there.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William F. McDaris; two sons, William F. (Chuck) McDaris II and Thomas Andrew McDaris; and brother, Fred A. Miller Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Lynne M. Goodman, and her beloved son-in-law, W.L. Goodman II, of Signal Mountain; sister, Carolyn Wood, of Johnson City; sister-in-law, Nancy Miller, of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews; and a very dear longtime friend, Delores Stone.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Broad Street United Methodist Church in Cleveland with the Rev. Debbie Stokes and the Rev. Reed Shell officiating.

Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service.

Her family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
